SA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS JUST 5 DAYS AWAY
The much anticipated 2016 South African Cross Championships is just five days away and with all the preparations coming to an end for the Local Organizing Committee, athletes and coaches; we will see everyone making their way to Pacaltsdorp, George as of Wednesday.
The 2016 South African Cross Country Championships has been the talk of the town even during the Olympic Games and after Elroy Gelant’s great run in the men’s 5000m final at the Olympics, the excitement for the championships that will take place this coming Saturday 10 September, was boosted to another level. Because he is the home-ground hero, Gelant, alongside defending champion, Stephen Mokoka will be the draw-cards of the championships.
These two stars will spearhead the country’s best cross country athletes who have been preparing for this event for months. There you have it; months of preparation will be showcased just five days from now! For some it will be their first and for others their fifth national championships…but does it matter? Experience matter yes, but if you are a first time runner, five days from now, you can show South Africa that nothing is impossible.
The championships that also took place in George two years ago, is sure to provide some of the greatest running competitions witnessed this year. The packed day will see under/9 athletes competing in their first championships and 80 year old athletes running their 20 th or 15 th championships!
The fact remains, the championships is only five days away! Enough time for you to gather your family and make plans to witness some of the future stars and current champions. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday 10 September.
